Virtualisation using VMware
What is virtualisation?

Virtualisation is a technology that makes it possible to run multiple operating systems and multiple applications on the same computer at the same time. In essence you can run several different servers on the same physical box, therefore reducing the need to purchase new hardware for each server.

How does virtualisation work?
Virtualisation uses
software such as WMware ESX to transform or 'virtualise' the
hardware resources of a computer (CPU, RAM, hard disc, network
cards) to create a fully functional 'virtual machine' that can run
its own operating system and applications just like a 'real'
computer.
VMware inserts a thin layer of software onto the host (the computer running the virtual machines). This software creates the virtual machines and allocates resources dynamically so multiple operating systems can run concurrently on a single physical computer.
At Jatech we have helped many businesses consolidate the number of servers by virtualising them. This has reduced costs, hardware, support, power, space and cooling requirements. Virtualisation is a cost-effective technology to implement as part of your Disaster Recovery Plan to provide maximum uptime and minimum recovery time windows.
