Reduce costs further with a virtual infrastructure

VMware HA and FT

Taking virtualization further

Once the benefit of virtualizing physical servers has been realised the next stage in most VMware projects is to move to a virtual infrastructure.

Our VMware customers have harnessed the power of infrastruction virtualization to better manage their IT capacity, provide better service levels, and streamline IT processes.

What is a virtual infrastructure?

A virtual machine lets you share the resources of a single physical computer across multiple virtual machines for maximum efficiency.

A virtual infrastructure lets you share your physical machine resources across your entire infrastructure. Resources are shared across multiple virtual machines and applications.

Using VMware virtualization your IT infrastructure can dynamically adapt by mapping the physical resources of your infrastructure to application demands, even as those needs evolve and change.

Ensure your applications are always available

You can quickly and easily add or remove virtual servers to your network using pre-defined templates.  With VMware High Availabilty (HA) and vMotion you can eliminate planned downtime through live migration of virtual machines across physical servers with no disruption to users or serivces.

Fault Tolerance (FT) introduces continuous availability for applications in the event of server failures by creating a live shadow instance of a virtual machine on another physical server, allowing instantaneous failover between the two instances in the event of hardware failure.  FT eliminates even the smallest chance of data loss or disruption.

VMware Infrastructure chart

Virtual infrastructures consist of:

  • Bare-metal Hypervisor software
  • Virtual infrasture resources and management tools
  • Optimisation solutions for DR

VMware customers report dramatic results when they adopt virtual infrastructure solutions, including:

60-80% utilization rates for x86 servers (up from 5-15% in non-virtualized PCs)

Cost savings of more than £1,500 annually for every workload virtualized

Ability to provision new applications in minutes instead of days or weeks

85% improvement in recovery time from unplanned downtime
